Lawyer mauled by polar bear while camping

In the worst mauling since Torngat Mountains National Park was created in 2005, lawyer Matthew Dyer was attacked by a polar bear while camping in the Canadian park Weds., July 26, David Hench reported for the Kennebac Journal.

“Dyer remained in intensive care at Montreal General Hospital on Friday night after he was mauled by the bear, which broke through an electrified fence and attacked him in his tent while he was camping with a group,” Hench wrote. “The bear, a carnivorous predator that can reach 1,000 pounds and is common in the northern Labrador park, attacked Dyer about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. It dropped Dyer after other members of his camping party fired signal flares.”
