The Washington state Liquor and Cannabis Board announced Wednesday that they will start accepting applications for new medical marijuana dispensaries next month.

This is the first time state regulators have expanded the market since 2013, according to an article published in The Olympian. This expansion also includes an increase in the number of plants growers can manage at a time.

The new dispensaries will be licensed to sell both recreational and medical marijuana, but cannot sell medical inventory until the Department of Health approves their product.

A set of temporary rules have been written to regulate the merge of the medical and recreational markets. Permanent rules are underway and will include public opinion.
