
Colorado tax laws are forcing government officials to wave the sales tax on recreational marijuana for one day, September 16.
“At first I was in disbelief we were doing this,” said Cheri Hackett, who owns Botanacare, a dispensary in the Denver suburb of Northglenn. “Once our lawyer said, ‘No, we really are doing this,’ we started getting ready. We’re thinking there will be huge crowds.”

According to the Associated Press, officials claim the tax cut will cost the state $3 to $4 million. A regular sales tax of 2.9 percent will still be applied. However, customers will be exempt from a 15 percent excise tax.
