Vice presidential candidate Andrew Olson said he and Daniels’ motto is “bridging the gap.”

“…things like communication and enhancement and things like that,” Olson said.

“I think our involvement is what will differentiate us.  What Wendy is involved in is a lot different from what we have been involved in.
Nigel is involved in different things concerning diversity on campus and I am involved in the advisory board and more of the communications aspect,” Olson continued.

“I think Nigel and I are both passionate about representation, we want it to represent what students want. I think we ultimately represent ambition,” Olson said. “We want to do a lot of new things that will set us apart from past administrations.”

Update 6:10 p.m.

ASCSU presidential candidate Nigel Daniels discussed he and running mate Andrew Olson’s visions if elected.

“We want to make sure we are representing students well. Our major theme is change, closing the gap between faculty and students,” Daniels said. “We want to hold ASCSU accountable to the students and enhance communication among its members. We also want to improve student services and really work around university enhancement.”

Of his vice presidential running mate, Daniels said, “Andrew is personable, he has great character and his morals are in line with mine, which is why I chose him. He has a lot to bring to the table. We don’t always agree, but we have been able to handle those times effectively and I think that’s what will make us great. He is also highly qualified, being the current speaker pro temp. As vice president you chair Senate and you need to understand how it works. I think he has shown he can really handle this and really make a change.”

Update 5:30 p.m.

“We have  a lot of overarching goals for the organization. Our major function we want to accomplish is to represent (students) and promote efficiency, sustainability and constituency,” said ASCSU presidential candidate Wendy Bowling in an interview with the Collegian, following candidacy announcements. We want to make sure our cabinet is sustainable as well, we also want to make initiatives that are more than one year out. We’ve been having ideas that are great for a year and gone the next.”

The Collegian is currently waiting for comment from Nigel Daniels and Andrew Olson, also running for president and vice president.

Bowling spoke about her running mate, John Stockley.

“John is a member of Senate, and he really brought a new perspective. He is a bit newer, and I wanted that outside’rs perspective. He can tell us where ASCSU needs to change and grow, and he brings a good look at how it can be improved,” she said.

Bowling discussed her involvement with Student Fee Review Board.

“I’ve been involved in many areas of campus and involved in many different areas of ASCSU, especially the area of money, which is what most students are concerned with,”she said. “We will make sure that students are advocated for properly when it comes to finances, reaching most students possible.”

In a news release sent today at 5 p.m., the Associated Students of CSU announced the candidates in the 2013 ASCSU Election.

Wendy Bowling will be running for President with John Stockley as her vice president candidate. Nigel Daniels and Andrew Olson will also run for president and vice president, respectively.

Campaigning will begin Monday, March 25 at 8 a.m., a plaza debate and open question and answer session will take place March 28, and a debate in the LSC Theater will take place April 3.

Candidates for Senator positions include Joshua Deines, Emily Ruddes and Landan Schaffert from the College of Agricultural Sciences; Joelle Hamilton from the College of Applied Human Sciences; Brandon Earle from the College of Engineering; Cameron Doeling and Taylor Watson from Intra-University; Alexander Johnson, Timbre Shriver, Alex Nuckols, Terran Hause and Francesca Tait from the College of Liberal Arts; and Lance Li Puma and Tuan Hoang from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Science.

All candidates have met the eligibility requirements, according to the news release.

Voting begins April 8 at 8 a.m. and will continue until 4 p.m. on April 10. Election results will be announced at 8 p.m. that day.

May 10, an inaugural ball will be held in the LSC Theater.
