Ever wonder what Vanilla Ice is up to these days? Apparently he’s into playing free concerts with local Ska bands.

Local act Synthetic Elements announced they will be playing a free concert at LoDos Highlands Ranch with the rapper made famous by his single “Ice Ice Baby,” which has sold over 1,000,000 copies to date and is certified platinum.

“There is no perfect band to open for Vanilla Ice,” Mike Blecha, who plays keyboard, trumpet, and guitar for Synthetic Elements, said. “It’s a whole different demographic for us, we’ve never played in Highlands Ranch before.”

The show will help celebrate the recent renovation of the LoDos Highlands Ranch location. Alice 105.9 is calling the event the “Summer Solstice Party” and hopes to make it an annual event. The doors open at 5pm and the concert is free.  Vanilla Ice is scheduled to take the stage at 8:30 pm.

“I’m nervous, but I’m more excited to see the reaction of a soccer mom drinking a martini listening to Synthetic Elements,” Blecha said.
