Horsetooth Reservoir
Listed as the first option on Colorado’s website, stargazing at Horsetooth Reservoir is close to home and “since not many cars pass by at night, you’re offered an uninterrupted view of sparkling skies.” The sky brightens as you get further from town, so a hike up to Horsetooth Rock is also a great way to get the most out of stargazing.
Fossil Creek Reservoir
The Skygazing event at Fossil Creek Reservoir Regional Open Space in Fort Collins, recurs on Saturday throughout the summer, with the next June 15. The event is geared toward educating the community, while providing fun and entertainment.
This free opportunity is hosted by volunteers at the the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society, who “provide telescopes for viewing the sky, and share their knowledge about stars, planets, galaxies and more.”

When the smoke clears from the most recent Big Meadows Fire, Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park is a Colorado Staple for stargazing. According to Colorado.com, “at the Estes Park Memorial Observatory visitors can explore the night sky with a Mead 12 inch LX200 Schmidt-Cassergrain telescope in a private observation session or during a pre-scheduled public viewing.”
