If you’ve been anywhere near the Lory Student Center Plaza these past two days, you no doubt had the privilege to witness a graphic display of free speech featuring billboards of the bodies of aborted fetuses.
Yes it’s a little gruesome, but while you may not agree with the intentions behind the display, you can nonetheless recognize it as an expression of our American freedom.

Today on the plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., graduating seniors have the opportunity to take to the stump and express their opinion to the CSU student body –– and exercise your right to free speech.
Many have taken the stump to decry Obamacare, promote religious teachings or just to engage in a conversation with the students on this campus. You can use the stump for everything from proclaiming your love for whitewater rafting, to trying to open up your peers’ eyes, to a whole new realm of political thought.
You can exercise your right to free speech wherever. The stump is just the iconic place to do it at CSU.
It is a symbol of free expression on this campus, which is foundational to any learning environment.
So seniors, take to the stump today and tell CSU your thoughts on something important to you. And to everybody who isn’t a senior, don’t hesitate to give a stump speech as well. You don’t need a special day to do it.
Your right to free speech is one of those rare things that if you don’t use it, you actually could very well lose it.
