Naiditch: Brat Summer is over. What’s your excuse now?

Naiditch: Brat Summer is over. What’s your excuse now?

Ava Naiditch, Collegian Columnist September 26, 2024
Alas, gone are the sizzling hot days of neon lime green eccentricity. Yes, it’s true, “brat summer” is officially over. On Sep. 2, Charli XCX, the woman that started it all, put an end to “brat summer” on Twitter, saying “goodbye forever brat summer.”

Pavelko: There is no pressure to join in on typical college activities

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist September 24, 2024
The traditional college experience has been advertised to us through the media for a long time. No matter if it is "Pitch Perfect" or "Monsters University," it shows us that the highlights of our college days are characterized by big blowout parties, the social cliques of sororities and fraternities and mysterious drinks served to you in red solo cups.

Parcells: Am I queer enough?: Biphobia in LGBTQIA+ discourse harms us all

Hannah Parcells, Content Managing Editor September 24, 2024
September is Bisexual Visibility month, and as someone who identifies as bisexual, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this idea of “visibility” and what it truly means. The queer community is often painted with one broad brush, especially in conversation with primarily straight people. This can give the impression that queerness is a monolithic experience.

Souza: Venezuelan gang fear perpetuates antimigrant, anti-immigrant racism

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist September 23, 2024
Under Donald Trump’s vision of a Colorado town, Aurora approximately 70 miles from Fort Collins, violent crime by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua rapidly spreads. Bigger than the gang’s arrested members and their past presence in an apartment complex, the town of Aurora has quickly become a national talking point in an aggressively anti-migrant and anti-immigrant agenda.
Pavelko: Toys are not just for kids anymore

Pavelko: Toys are not just for kids anymore

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist September 20, 2024
Most people remember playing with toys when they were kids. There are memories of brightly colored blocks being stacked, toy dolls going on action-packed adventures and coloring books with pictures colored outside the lines. Even the simplest things could be toys like paper folded into airplanes or fortune tellers.

Thorn: Talking about sex with your partner is important

Astrid Thorn, Collegian Columnist September 16, 2024
For many young people, having sex is much easier than talking about it. It can often feel awkward to bring up sexual desires in conversation with a sexual partner or partners, but it is an essential part of developing a positive sexual relationship, not only with your partner but also with yourself.

Naiditch: Skateboarders need to get out of the way of campus flow

Stephenson: CSU has newfound underdog appeal against Boulder

Leah Stephenson, Collegian Columnist September 13, 2024
It seems that it is getting harder to compete with CU Boulder’s image. Last year, Boulder became the subject of mass media attention after hiring Deion Sanders, which shifted the public perception of CU as a whole. Initially, it didn’t seem as though Sanders would change a lot for Colorado State University other than the talent of our football competitors, until the rest of the nation started to take an extreme interest.

Lopez: Dear Fort Collins

Dominique Lopez, Opinion Editor September 12, 2024
Where do I begin? The community you provide for students at Colorado State University is undeniably the best. With opportunities to go to the mountains, hang out in Old Town and even attend classes right in the heart of the city is amazing.
Harris: It's time to put demure to sleep

Harris: It’s time to put demure to sleep

Ava Harris, Collegian Columnist September 12, 2024
Jumping on TikTok trends? Not very cutesy, not very mindful — definitely not demure. The TikTok community has been buzzing since the term demure first made its debut, using it with every opportunity they get. While many find this trend to be entertaining, I find it rather irritating.

Bisant: Living in the dorms should not be required

Hayley Bisant, Collegian Columnist September 11, 2024
Having a first-year roommate is an infamous part of the college experience. I heard a story from almost every adult in my life about who they got saddled with the summer before I left to attend Colorado State University. While I did hear a fair share of sweet or funny stories, others were downright horrifying. And in the end, I was left wondering why students are made to endure such bizarre living conditions.

Naiditch: Navigating newfound independence in college isn’t easy

Ava Naiditch, Collegian Columnist September 11, 2024
When many of us graduated high school and made the decision to go away for college, we all likely heard the same phrase thrown at us: “you are going to find newfound independence when you get to school.” To some who heard it, I imagine they thought it meant that they were going to go to all the parties, be curfew-free, eat anything and everything that want, maybe not clean their room and maybe not even go to class every day. And they may not be wrong.
