Two years ago when medical marijuana was legalized in Illinois, continuing the right to own firearms was a big issue. The state agreed to allow patients to keep their firearms, and there is nothing in Illinois state legislature that mentions gun ownership. The letters sent out must have been a clash in federal and state law.
Since marijuana is still federally illegal, there is no overarching government decision on the matter. To read more about this issue, see the full story.
