For a third straight season, a Colorado State linebacker has been named to the preseason watch list for the Butkus award, an award annually presented to honor the nation’s top linebackers at the collegiate, professional and high school levels. Tuesday, it was announced that Kevin Davis is one of 51 collegiate players to make the list, joining Aaron Davis in (2014) and Cory James (2015), as Rams to make the watchlist.

Davis led CSU in tackles (101) and tackles for loss (14) last season, earning an All-Mountain West honorable mention in his first year as a starter. Davis did it all for the Rams, during a stretch dating back back to the 2014 season, he was part of at least one tackle for loss in ten straight games.

Davis also scored the first points of the season in 2015, recovering a fumble in the end zone on the second play from scrimmage. Davis’ interception in the fourth quarter at New Mexico secured a victory for the Rams, helping them become bowl eligible for a third consecutive season.

After starting all 13 games for CSU and finishing the season ranking in the top 10 in the MW in both tackles and tackles for loss, Davis enters the season at the top of the depth chart once again and in the national spotlight.

Semifinalists for the award will be named on Oct. 31 and finalists on Nov. 21. Davis is the fourth Ram to be named to a preseason watch list this season, joining Jake Bennett (Rimington Trophy), Hayden Hunt (Ray Guy Award) and Fred Zerblis (Outland Trophy).
