Marcus Holt will return to CSU next season after signing a new financial aid agreement.

The 6-foot-10 senior forward was granted his release in April, but after some consideration has decided to return to CSU for his final season of eligibility. He announced the decision via Facebook last Monday, and CSU confirmed the news Friday.

Holt is expected to redshirt the 2014-2015 season, which would make him eligible to play for the Rams in 2015-2016.

In his first season at CSU, Holt played in 30 games and averaged 3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12.3 minutes per game, while leading the team in total blocks. The Aurora native transferred to CSU after playing two seasons at Paris (Texas) Junior College.

Holt’s return leaves CSU with two scholarships still open for 2014-2015. One of those is expected to go to former Iowa State guard Bubu Palo, if he is successful in getting clearance from the NCAA for a sixth season of eligibility.

Former CSU point guard Jon Octeus will transfer to UCLA.

Octeus is expected to graduate from CSU this fall and will be eligible to play for the Bruins in 2014-2015. The 6-foot-4 combo guard started all 32 games for the Rams last season, averaging 13.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 33.6 minutes per game last season.

The Miami native was CSU Head Coach Larry Eustachy’s first recruit after taking the job in 2012. He played two seasons for the Rams after transferring from Wabash Valley Junior College in Illinois.

Octeus was CSU’s third-best scorer last season. UCLA will need his help after losing three guards to the NBA Draft.

Sophomore guard John Gillon, a transfer from Arkansas-Little Rock, is now expected to start at point guard for the Rams next season.
