Three Colorado State track and field team members competed at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships this past weekend in Oregon.

Aaliyah Pete, among the three incoming CSU sophomores, placed second in the shot put on Saturday, earning her a spot for the IAAF World Junior Championships later this month.

Pete threw 53 feet, 7 inches on her third attempt. She also competed in the discus, throwing 162-9 on her final toss to squeeze into the top five.

The IAFF World Junior Championships will take place July 22 through 27 in Eugene, Oregon – the largest IAFF event ever to be held on US soil.

“Aaliyah showed great composure during the meet,” Head Coach Brian Bedard said. “She competes like a veteran thrower. She listens to what I say and makes changes during the competition if needed. She’s really fun to coach.”

Along with Pete, sophomore Collin Scheer finished fifth in the high jump, clearing the bar set at 6-8.75. Marcus Harris Jr. placed 13th in the 100-meter dash, and seventh in his heat, crossing the finish line in 10.70 seconds.
