Be weed smart

Wednesday is the day that many have been awaiting with bated breath: Larimer County is opening it’s first retail marijuana shop. Weed is legal, so that means that the residents of Fort Collins can enjoy themselves as much as their hearts desire.

However, there are a couple things to keep in mind. Weed is not legal if you are under the age of 21, and it is not legal to drive under the influence. You cannot carry it out in the open or in public spaces. Also, it’s really expensive if you don’t have a medicinal license. Be smart Rams, if you make the decision to partake.

Marijuana is legal, but so is alcohol. Take the same precautions as you would if you were planning a night of drinking; don’t drive, and make sure that everyone around you is being safe. Let’s not have a repeat happening of the student in Denver that fell to his death from a balcony when he was high. Let’s be safe and remember that it is still a drug, and precautions need to be taken.

If you aren’t experienced with weed, do your research. Everyone reacts differently, so take it slow. This is a great step for the great state of Colorado, but we don’t want unnecessary ramifications of people being irresponsible with the privilege that they’ve been given.

Be safe, Rams.
