SIGEP fundraising for Camp Colorado

The brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) will be hosting their first annual “Sam Berenbeim Memorial Diabetes Fundraiser” in honor of a brother who passed during the summer of 2013. The chapter lost beloved brother Sam Berenbeim due to a seizure caused by his type 1 diabetes, this led to a diabetic coma. Sam was in Telluride, Colorado enjoying a bluegrass festival when he passed. Brothers saw it suiting to host a philanthropy event surrounding music as it was a huge aspect of his life; he was known for having a great taste in music, often listening to the likes of Grateful Dead.

The chapter has teamed up with Avogrado’s Number to host the event. There will be three different bands throughout the evening including Noel Anderson and Kernel Krash. All funds from the evening will be going to Camp Colorado located at Eagle Lake outside of Woodland Park. The camp has a two week term during the summer specifically for children with diabetes and all money will be going towards that term. The typical cost of Camp Colorado is $560 and through the Sam Berenbeim Scholarship, more children fighting diabetes will be able to attend camp. Sam was a counselor during his summers and would want any child to have the incredible experience that Camp Colorado provides.

The SigEp Philanthropy Chairman, Jay Jensen, encourages the entire CSU Community to come to the event and for all to help in this great cause for a local camp. Avogrado’s Number is located at 605 Mason Street just north of campus. The event will begin at 7:00 pm on Thursday, November 7th and the cost will be $7 at the door. For further ways to donate or any questions, contact Jay Jensen at (573) 982-9273.
