Let's be frank: there's never an ideal moment to craft college essays. At best, there are times that are somewhat less unfavorable. Why is...

Miley Strikes Up Controversy With Older Crowd

Would you ever expect a feminist to stand up for Miley Cyrus’s wild acts? Neither did we.

Gloria Steinem an activist, journalist, and feminist icon has more or less backed Miley Cyrus’s extremely sexualized performances!

According to an article on omg.yahoo.com she stated “I wish we didn’t have to be nude to be noticed, (…) But given the game as it exists, women make decisions.”

She then went on to say that, “The Miss America contest is in all of its states, forms … the single greatest source of scholarship money for women in the United States. If a contest based only on appearance was the single greatest source of scholarship money for men, we would be saying, ‘This is why China wins.’ You know? It’s ridiculous. But that’s the way the culture is. I think that we need to change the culture, not blame the people that are playing the only game that exists.”

So there you have it, Gloria Steinem the spokeswoman for the women’s liberation movement from the 60’s to the 70’s doesn’t condone Miley’s actions but she understands that this is the way that women are getting noticed in today’s society.

Of course Steinem wasn’t the only one to weigh in on all of the Miley chaos.

Annie Lenox, british singer/song writer and political activist decided to weigh in on the madness. Lenox stated on the same omg.yahoo.com article that, “On reflection I will say that sexuality is an inherent and profound part of life. There is absolutely nothing ‘wrong’ about our sexuality or sensuality per se – But if a performing artist has an audience of impressionable young fans and they want to present a soft porn video or highly sexualised live performance, then it needs to qualify as such and be X rated for adults only. … Is it appropriate for seven year olds to be thrusting their pelvises like pole dancers? I really don’t think so.”

So there you have it, two women who have dabbled heavily in women’s issues in the public eye have strong opinions about little ol’ Miley.

Do you think she even cares, or is she too busy ‘dancing with Molly’?
