Ada Lovelace, First Computer Programmer

Quite an active week in technology.  Google releases a new laptop for under $300Samsung announces its new smart watch.  Consumerism doesn’t seem to be slowing, regardless of shutdowns.

Google announced its plans to personalize advertisements at an unprecedented level.  Meanwhile, Facebook decided that hiding your profile isn’t an option. This seems to be an ever increasing trend in the tech industry.  Now, more than ever, is a great time to disconnect and step into the real world.

Yet, it’s not all terrible; people are starting to question our new found era.

Dave Eggers recently published a novel exploring where our technology could lead us.  It shows the panopticon in its expanded form.  Definitely a book worth checking out.

Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron, is the world’s first computer programmer.  In her short life, she devised the concept of the algorithm.  An algorithm is the procedure which all computer programs follow.  It is the most important piece of any program.  She is the foundational computer scientist.  Her mother wanted Ada to pursue something less despicable than poetry.  Now, instead of delicious cookies and flowery sentences, we have no society, thanks to social media.  Thanks a lot Ada!   Who would’ve known your methods would contribute to total social destruction?

Just kidding, we all know the only people responsible for bad things are menwhite men…  straight, white, menJust like this author!
