Colorado State has created an eastbound bike lane to provide a safer biking environment for students traveling on South Drive.

In the past, South Drive was a one-way westbound street, which caused difficulties for both bikers and drivers because bikers would often travel eastbound against the flow of traffic.

The new lane will make it easier for bikers to safely get to and from classes without having to take alternate routes. Although the bike lane takes up a significant amount of space, there are still numerous parking spots available.

“Students will need to be guided to take the lane westbound and not ride against bike traffic in the bike lane,” said Aaron Fodge, director of alternative transportation. “Parked cars in the contraflow lane will now be ticketed.”

Fodge said it will make South Drive a safer route as well as reduce any unnecessary enforcement. 

The new bike lane has been available for all bike traffic since the beginning of the spring semester.
