When crews arrived at the scene, they found 2,000 of the 2,600 gallons had already spilled from the tank. The leak was caused by a puncture in the tank, possibly from some debris on tracks, according to a press release.

There was no immediate danger, so no evacuations were made. Firefighters were able to cordon off the area to provide protection against fire danger.

According to the press release, Great Western and Union Pacific Railroads worked with Poudre Fire Authority’s Hazardous Materials team to make sure the spill was contained and then cleaned up properly to avoid possible damage.
