Digital forensics expert Steve Linn is coming to Colorado State University Monday to talk about how computers can be used to solve legal cases through digital trails people leave behind.

Linn is certified by the Supreme Court to be an educator of digital forensics and teaches attorneys across the state about how digital information can play a key role in legal cases.

“In the most simple terms, think of the hard drive as a your grandmother’s attic,” Linn said on his website Hidden Evidence. “Nothing ever really gets thrown away until all the space is used up.”

According to Linn, digital evidence is “a witness that never lies.” It can provide an upper hand in legal settlements, help prove cases and work to impeach unreliable witnesses.

Linn is speaking twice on Monday, once at 11 a.m. then again at 5:30 p.m., both times in the Computer Science Building Room 130.
