On August 30, CSU will host internationally known hip-hop artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Students will be able to purchase tickets for just $10 starting June 1 online at csutix.com or at the Lory Student Center box office. Non-students will be able to purchase tickets that same day for $35.
There will be 5, 500 tickets available at the student price and 4, 500 available for non-students.
ASAP took into account 2,000 votes from students via text message, email and tally in order to bring more hip-hop artists for the fall concert.
Their most recent abum, “The Heist,” includes record breaking number one rap song on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs “Thrift Shop.”
ASAP is also working with concert promoter, Amplitude Entertainment, for the first time.
“Working with a promoter allows us to get bigger, more well-known artists for our students,” said ASAP marketing coordinator, Sydney Boyle.
According to co founder for Amplitude Entertainment, Justin Greenstein, they have paired college campuses with musical artists from all genres including folk and underground hip-hop, even adding British comedian Eddie Izzard to the mix.
“I think the biggest thing right now is that Macklemore is hands down one of the biggest artists at the moment,” Greenstein said. “His shows have been extremely successful and well received.”
In the past, the fall concert has seen Ludacris, selling 8,000 tickets, and B.o.B and Sean Kingston, selling 5,200 tickets. ASAP and Amplitude are hoping that the recent success and popularity of Macklemore will be enough to sell the 10,000 tickets available.
Greenstein added that the financial plan for this show was that there would be no risk for ASAP.
“We wanted to take away any chance they would lose money if the show doesn’t go well,” Greenstein said.
“Part of what ASAP does is meet the needs of a diverse student body, and so if they do a hip-hop show one year, what the trend has been is to do another genre the next year,” said ASAP advisor Bethel Nathan.
Normally, tickets for a Macklemore concert cost around $250, according to Nathan.
Greenstein said that except for a radio promotion, Macklemore does not plan on a concert in Colorado between now and August, so the fall concert at CSU will be a fresh performance.
