The Denver Art Museum is featuring two CSU professors’ art in an exhibit that opened July 10.
Titled “Performance on Paper: The Posters of Phil Risbeck and John Sorbie,” the exhibit includes 30 posters by artists Phil Risbeck and the late John Sorbie. The posters, created between 1960 and 1990, all introduce performances, including theater, opera and film at CSU.

According to the Denver Art Museum, “the exhibition will highlight Risbeck and Sorbie’s expressive techniques, such as high-contrast photography, collage and photomontage, hand-drawn illustrations, and their innovative use of the split fountain technique. These eye-catching works capture the essence of an event through energetic imagery and restrained typography.”
Sorbie developed CSU’s graphic design department in 1960 and taught at CSU for almost 30 years, and Phil Risbeck currently teaches in the graphic design department at CSU. Risbeck is the co-founder of the Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition, and his work has been displayed in Moscow, Paris, Riga, Porto, Warsaw, Cerveira and Havana. His work is included in permanent collections of poster museums in Europe, Japan and the United States, including at the Denver Art Museum.
The exhibition is on display through Jan. 8, 2017, on level two of the Hamilton Building at the museum.
