Unofficial tradition rules that the Christmas season, and music in particular, starts the day after Thanksgiving, but the Rams on campus seem to have a different opinion.
Some people said they like Christmas music, but none were actually listening to it. It might be too soon to break out the Christmas tunes. If you do not feel ready for the Christmas carols quite yet, but are looking for some new music, you are not alone. Here are some ideas for what to put in your earbud next:
Matthew Geohring, sophomore psychology major, prefers the hip-hop and rap he listens to on 8tracks internet radio over Christmas music. “I just think (Christmas music) is too overplayed,” Geohring said. “Listening for a month and a half straight is too much for me.”
Michael Speer, sophomore health and exercise science major, was rocking “Morning After Dark” by Timbaland. Despite that, he disagrees with Geohring about Christmas music. “I think it’s good,” Speer said. “Jingle Bells is my favorite.”
Jen Lambrick, a senior journalism and technical communications major, likes “Lakehouse” by Of Monsters and Men. Lambrick expressed a distaste for Christmas music. “I can’t stand it,” Lambrick said. “It’s everywhere for a month, it just gets old really fast.”
Junior journalism and technical communications major Paul Hazelton’s song of choice was “The Pretender” by the Foo Fighters. Hazelton said he wishes there was more variety in Christmas music. “I think it’s kind of overused,” Hazelton said. “They never come up with any new songs.”
“I’m a fan of Christmas music; love the season, love the songs,” said Amanda Vanderberg, senior criminology major. Vandenberg was listening to Black Stone Cherry’s song “Tired of the Rain.”
