Spring is in the air and the University Center for the Arts is welcoming the season the right way, with singing and dancing in the beautiful production of “The Merry Widow” by Franz Lehar.
Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Griffin Concert Hall, old and new opera goers can see this spectacular show.

“This is a great show to get into the lighthearted mood that will prepare us for spring,” said Carrie Care, publicity coordinator for UCA. “There is something for everyone. ‘The Merry Widow’ is the ultimate art form because it involves music, singing, dancing, and acting.”
The operetta, which was originally written in Austrian, is going to be performed in English. According to Care, this gives the show a new and enjoyable interpretation.
“The piece is very accessible to first time opera goers because it is similar to musical theater in its form with dialogue bridging musical numbers,” said Dr. Tiffany Blake, Assistant Professor of Voice and Director of the Charles and Reta Ralph Opera Center.
Even if you do not consider yourself an avid opera attendee, Blake and Care feel assured that everyone can enjoy this show.
