Rachel Johnson-Bothe

Rachel Johnson-Bothe, Copy Chief

Rachel Johnson-Bothe is enthusiastic to be stepping into her first semester as copy chief for The Rocky Mountain Collegian.

Johnson-Bothe has planned to be a copy editor for years due to a penchant for overcorrecting grammar when editing her friends’ and peers’ papers. And one fateful day in January, she stumbled upon a job listing on Handshake searching for a Collegian copy editor, which seemed too good to be true. The picture she’d held in her mind paled in comparison to her new reality. After a semester of learning the ropes, she now steps into the role of copy chief, where she hopes to positively contribute to The Collegian’s future in a time of journalistic uncertainty and to build positive relationships with her peers.

Entering her second year at Colorado State University, Johnson-Bothe is an English major with a concentration in creative writing. She has the grand aspiration of being a novelist and holds great value in the time she’s spent at the copy desk, where she has watched — and continues to see — her writing skills evolve.

She is most likely to be found with her sweet, yet loud Australian Shepherd, Percy (to whom her entire camera roll is dedicated). She is often with her friends, getting boba or coffee for the umpteenth time or wandering aimlessly around a bookstore. She has 60 and growing extremely curated playlists that she loves to listen to while taking night drives and going for long walks.
