Seymour: Consumerism shapes how corporate DEI operates

Charlotte Seymour, Collegian Columnist March 11, 2025
Diversity, equity and inclusion has become a large-scale industry — but is it really about progress? Or just profit? In recent years, more and more companies have been treating DEI like a trend to take advantage of rather than an organizational framework dedicated to meaningful change.
Thorn: DEI does not mean what Trump says it does

Thorn: DEI does not mean what Trump says it does

Astrid Thorn, Collegian Columnist March 11, 2025
Since reentering the White House in January, President Donald Trump and his administration have made no effort to hide their extremist, far-right agenda. From waging a war on undocumented immigrants to withdrawing from the Paris Agreement and more, he has made it clear that he is in office for one reason: to promote a self-serving, oppressive, white supremacist agenda.

Seymour: How to shift your mindset, transform your experience in college

Charlotte Seymour, Collegian Columnist March 6, 2025
Maintaining a positive mindset can sometimes feel impossible, but it is crucial for a fulfilling college experience. College is the first time we are fully on our own, and we get to decide everything for ourselves — this means we need to be intentional about our mindset. If you're having a difficult time staying positive, here’s how you can shift your mindset and take control of your college experience.

Souza: What your sibling order says about you

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist March 5, 2025
I’m not a devout astrology believer nor am I an astrology disbeliever. Rather than explaining my own actions — and everyone else’s — with the positioning of the stars, I follow an astrology of my own: the positioning of your birth order.

Thorn: Low sex drive is completely normal

Astrid Thorn, Collegian Columnist March 3, 2025
There is no denying that sex can be exciting, fun, inviting and something to be sought after. Sex is a crucial part of life for many people across the world and a major factor in many people’s romantic relationships. One important aspect of a person’s sex life is the frequency with which they desire sexual contact. This is an issue that requires sensitivity, as discourse surrounding it can involve a great amount of societal pressure and shame.

LTTE: CSU quietly removed almost all references to gender pronouns from their websites; I won’t be missing them

Devy Ballard, Guest Author March 3, 2025
Picture this: You're a new freshman at Colorado State University. Across many tours and events, you find yourself in several rooms of students where people of authority tell you all about student life and the various resources available to you. When time comes to get to know each other, a leader asks you to share "your name, pronouns if you're comfortable and where you come from." That line, "pronouns if you're comfortable", has been heard by us students many times over. The tacit, inclusion-oriented reminder that students are encouraged to clarify their gender identity among peers. This practice has gained traction in recent years and garnered many opinions across the political spectrum.

Proulx: 5 ways to make your gathering less overstimulating

Caden Proulx, Collegian Columnist March 2, 2025
What’s almost worse than being neurodivergent and attending a social gathering? Hosting a gathering and noticing a friend struggling to engage, or getting overstimulated. As someone who is neurodivergent myself, and loves to host people at their house, I have picked up a couple things that can be helpful in making everyone feel a little more comfortable.

LFTE: For this Student Press Freedom Day, we must defend freedom of press

Allie Seibel, Hannah Parcells February 27, 2025

"Freedom of the press is not just important, it is imperative for a functioning democracy.” President John F. Kennedy is not alone in this narrative. The importance of a free, independent press is...

Weishaar: Combination desks are inconvenient, uncomfortable

Audrey Weishaar, Collegian Columnist February 27, 2025
Most classrooms on Colorado State University's campus have some sort of combination desk, which is any sort of desk that has a chair attached. The most common type are individuals — those oriented so that the bar connecting the desk to the chair can be lifted, allowing for easier entry. The bar should go under your dominant hand. The other type I have seen on campus is one in which the chair is on a swivel mounted to the desk. After the person using it pulls it out, the spring-locked chair will slide back toward the desk.

Souza: CSU admin’s public statements fail to address student concerns

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist February 24, 2025
At what point can a public institution stand against policies thrust upon them by those who have historically funded it?
Engle: The Democratic Party has failed America

Engle: The Democratic Party has failed America

Will Engle, Copy Chief February 24, 2025
President Donald Trump and his legion of fascists and oligarchs marched their way into the White House this January, and the Democrats handed him the golden key while doing an interpretive dance to protest his ever-growing power.
