Rhoads: Colorado's famous activities aren't as accessible as you might think

Rhoads: Colorado’s famous activities aren’t as accessible as you might think

Darien Rhoads, Collegian Columnist March 5, 2024
Colorado’s attractiveness for out-of-staters is largely due to outdoor access and activities like skiing and hiking that come with it. As a Coloradan, I can attest that in these communities, outdoor activities and status symbol are deeply correlated.

Vogl: Your favorite slang terms originated from drag culture

Vogl: Your favorite slang terms originated from drag culture

Claire Vogl, Copy Editor February 27, 2024
It seems as though a new word or phrase enters the limelight of popular culture every week. Whether it gains attention through TikTok or Twitter, it quickly becomes ingrained in the language of — primarily — Gen Z individuals.

Souza: Email etiquette is dying, but it shouldn’t be

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist February 20, 2024
No, you should not include “lol” in that email to your physics professor. As slang and language continue to adapt over the decades, the ways in which we communicate — within relationships, friendships and classrooms — adapt, too.

Pavelko: Despite comfort, studying in your bedroom isn’t ideal

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist February 19, 2024
As college students, we spend a fair amount of time studying. And there are so many places that you can study around campus from: the Lory Student Center to the Behavioral Sciences Building and even the Morgan Library. In fact, during my time at Colorado State University I have discovered that most of the buildings across campus have tables for students to sit and study at.

Pavelko: America has a weird conception of Valentine’s Day

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist February 14, 2024
In elementary school, almost everyone grew up making mailboxes and trading pieces of candy with their classmates for Valentine’s Day.
Stegall: Dating apps are killing modern romance

Stegall: Dating apps are killing modern romance

Hailee Stegall, Collegian Columnist February 14, 2024
On my 18th birthday, I downloaded Tinder in my dorm room, created a neon pink profile with all the excitement of a kid in a candy shop and got to swiping. And at around 10 p.m. on my 20th birthday, I stared myself in the face in the dirty mirror of a bar bathroom and swore to whatever powers that be that I would never download Tinder again. True story. There are witnesses, unfortunately, to both.

Proulx: SDC accommodations really are for everyone

Caden Proulx, Print Director February 13, 2024
For some reason, even though I had learning accommodations in high school, it took until I was a sophomore in college — about to flunk all my classes — for me to seek out accommodations from the Student Disability Center.

McMillan: Job applicants deserve more respect from employers

Adah McMillan, Copy Chief February 7, 2024
I assume employers hold themselves to some sort of standard, but it’s certainly nowhere near the standard to which they hold job applicants.

To those who don’t know us — or worse, to those who don’t love us: What do you mean, you don’t ski?
Pavelko: It's OK if you've given up on your New Year's resolutions

Pavelko: It’s OK if you’ve given up on your New Year’s resolutions

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist February 6, 2024
Historians estimate that New Year’s resolutions have been a tradition for thousands of years. What started as promises to the gods worshiped by the ancient Babylonians has transformed into a tradition of self-improvement.
Proulx: Yes, the Supreme Court is illegitimate

Proulx: Yes, the Supreme Court is illegitimate

Caden Proulx, Print Editor January 29, 2024
The U.S. Supreme Court is extremely flawed. Most people on the political spectrum can admit that, but in very different ways. For example, the Democratic justices are deemed patron saints who can do no wrong, but the reality is even Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who we champion above all, had her not-so-amazing history with racial justice and tribal sovereignty. The United States is run by an oligarchy.
