Is getting a tattoo while pregnant dangerous?

Risks of tattoos while pregnant While most women would be told that getting a tattoo done during a pregnancy is dangerous, an article from The Stir explored what it is about the procedure that could be harmful to the mother and her baby.

“While tattoo dye is limited to the skin layers, the procedure itself puts one at a small risk for a skin infection,” Marcel M. Favetta, M.D., chairman of obstetrics and gynecology for Geisinger Northeast of the Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania said in an interview with The Stir.

Additionally, antibiotics used to treat infection after tattoos are finished are directly exposed to the baby which can cause complications.
