Tattoos of ancient mummies revealed with CAT scans

US Navy scientist scans mummy during CAT scans. The tattoos of ancient mummies that have previously gone unnoticed by historians were revealed using CAT scans, according to an article from The Daily Mail. 

While the CAT scans revealed physical ailments and diets of the mummies, they also revealed a leg tattoos on a woman between 20 and 35.

“The tattoo represents the symbol of the Archangel Michael and one theory suggests it may have provided the owner, who lives in AD 700, with spiritual ‘protection,'” the article reads.

The find is considerably rare and the first of its kind for the time period.
