New Haven student offers perspective on tattoos

For University of New Haven editorial writer Nicolas Weilmann the debate over the professional image tattoos give potential employers is a thing of the past, according to his column in the university’s The Charger Bulletin.

“Employers should not see tattoos as a reason to not hire someone, and this is why: A person with tattoos is a person who can express him or herself,” Weilmann writes. “A person with tattoos is someone who has stories to tell; someone who isn’t afraid to show everyone who he or she is. Having a tattoo, and wearing it proudly, is an act of courage.”

He continues on to argue that if employers are not allowed to discriminate on the color of someone’s skin when interviewing, employers should also not be allowed to discriminate against the colors people choose to place on their skin either.
