The newest of dangerous tattoo trends emerged in the Jamaican dancehall scene: tattooing the protective layer of the eye to tint the color. According to Noisey, an online music magazine, dancehall artist Mace nearly blinded himself after attempting to imitate the procedure.

“Mace was following in the footsteps of fellow Jamaican dancehall artist, Alkaline, who reportedly tattooed his eyeballs last Spring,” the articles writer, Ryan Bassil, said.

Tattooing has become an integral part of the dancehall culture in Jamaica and, despite all of the risks in the procedure, Bassil believes that this new trend could be catching on.
