Like most people, I will be Christmas shopping this weekend, trying to find those perfect gifts for my family that says “I love you” without breaking my piggy bank open. However, this article about a Monett street fair has given me a whole different take on the word “giving”.

At the Alternative Gift Fair in Monett, you take your gifts and dollars and walk amongst 22 non-profits, looking for who to donate to. The donations and gifts go towards buying gifts for, and giving your gifts to, families in need.

“The true spirit of Christmas is giving to those in need,” said Elizabeth Lucore, one of the organizers. “This is a way to help an organization at Christmas time while crossing off people on your holiday shopping list. It’s a simple way to find that perfect gift. Give the gift that gives twice, when you donate to the cause of your choice, in the name of those you love.”
