A speech given by David Foster Wallace at the commencement ceremony of Kenyon College’s class of 2005 challenges typical ideas about life after college. Although 8 years old, the speech recently made its way back onto UpWorthy.
Wallace told the seniors at Kenyon college that the mystical, inspiring things told to them about adulthood were not entirely accurate. Instead, boring moments made up the day in and day out cycle of adult working life. However, Wallace argued that, while boring and infuriating, those moments give a person the opportunity to truly adjust their thinking to create a more positive experience.
