“A trio of over-eager video gamers– one an auxiliary NYPD officer, another the son of a retired officer — posed as cops to cut hundreds of people on a midnight line to buy the “Grand Theft Auto V” video game,” according to silive.com.

The trio hoped to gain early access to the game, but instead ended up charged as the criminals they were hoping to play.

According to the article, “they were simply mistaken for police, (a) source said — a mall guard offered them coffee, and a GameStop manager thanked them for providing additional security.”

The three men face single count of second-degree criminal impersonation.
