The Residence Hall Association is hosting Alternate Halloween, an event aimed at first-year on-campus students, from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Newsom Event Center.
Alternate Halloween will host various Halloween-related activities. The event will include inflatables from Big Air Jumpers, “Build Your Own Monkey” from Ram Events and “Painting Pumpkins” from RHA. Popcorn, candy and cotton candy will be provided.

There will also be educational activities. National Residence Hall Honorary is sponsoring an alcohol responsibility activity, and inclusive community assistants are sponsoring an activity related to inclusive Halloween costumes.
“They are going to talk about what certain types of Halloween costumes mean and how they can potentially affect different cultures and different identities,” said Jamie McKinley, a sophomore animal sciences student who is organizing the event.
McKinley came up with the event after experiencing a dissatisfactory Halloween last year as a freshman living on campus.
“Last year, I was lost at what there was to do on Halloween,” McKinley said. “There wasn’t anything offered to do on campus. We want to offer an event to be with friends in a safe environment for students that don’t want to leave campus.”
McKinely is expecting around 100 people to attend Alternate Halloween.
“Most fall festivals are in Denver or Longmont,” McKinley said. “We wanted to bring that interactive fun to campus and to make residents feel like they still have something to do that night, even if it does not include going off campus.”
