‘Twas the night before classes, when all through the house, not a student was stirring, not even an engineer. Every college student agreed and even some prayed. That maybe, just maybe, we will have a snow day. The students were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of snow days danced in their heads. Then “ding!” went the phones, which arose such a clatter. They sprang from their beds to see what was the matter. “CSU Alert: CSU canceling all classes and closing offices Tuesday, Feb. 2, based on weather conditions and forecasts,” it read. Then each student, one by one, happily went back to bed.

Feb. 2, at approximately 5:50 a.m., the unthinkable and near impossible happened: CSU declared a snow day. And, because of such a rare occurrence, many students declared it a day to celebrate. As many may know, a typical Friday, Saturday and even Thursday night in Fort Collins consists of typical college shenanigans such as thumping bass, spilled drinks, beer pong and the occasional “f*ck CU” chant. However, on this particular Tuesday, it seemed as if the entire population of CSU was partying it up weekend style, but with a snow day twist.

The beer pong tables turned into huge rectangles of snow, perfect for holding the red solo cups in position. Bottles and cans of alcohol were buried in the snow, which acted as a natural ice cooler. The thumping speakers brought the party outside as skiers and snowboarders jumped off huge, manmade snow hills. Those who were feeling extra risky were even jumping off of roofs.
And, as the once-in-a-blue-moon snow day came to an end, everyone tucked the skis and snowboards away.
“Good thing a tree branch did not fall on anyone this time,” they would say. Once the fuzzy pajamas were on and the computer screen projecting Netflix shone bright, one could almost hear Tony Frank exclaim, “Happy snow day to all, and to all a good night!”
