Seriously: CSU honors Medved with student vs. staff basketball tournament

Seriously: CSU honors Medved with student vs. staff basketball tournament

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist April 21, 2025
Picture this: the buzzer just sounded for the University of Maryland v. Colorado State University March Madness game. Camera angles zoom in on CSU players snot-nosed, teary eyed, violently group-hugging in an intensely boy manner — mostly dap-ups lost within a symphony of “bro’s” and other love confessions. But the second that the video stops rolling, Niko Medved turns to the crowd and says, “It isn’t over yet, bitches.”

Souza: ‘Liberation Day’ will have drastic impact on Colorado, CSU

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist April 7, 2025
There is nothing remotely freeing about April 2, the day Donald Trump coined “Liberation Day” by signing an executive order implementing tariffs on about 60 countries worldwide. Despite his intentions, the only things being liberated are the bills from our wallets and the success of the stock market.

Souza: Rate My Professors isn’t accurate

As much as I love the second half of the spring semester — the warm and fresh weather boosts my mood, work ethic and overall vibe —registering for classes definitely brings unneeded stress to my already stressful life. Not only am I sent into a vicious cycle of worrying about what classes I need and then worrying because they’re not offered, but I frequent one website more often than Canvas, Gmail or ChatGPT (jokes, jokes) combined: Rate My Professors.

Souza: What would CSU’s campus look like without DEI?

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist March 24, 2025
It is sickening to think that an alternate universe without diversity, equity and inclusion policies on Colorado State University campus is an entirely plausible one. Despite student protests, petitions and stale reassurances from the CSU administration, we are already regressing into a campus completely rid of any diversity, equity or inclusion.

Souza: CSU isn’t advocating for DEI as well as other Colorado universities

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist March 14, 2025
It may appear as though Colorado State University has discussed the recent diversity, equity and inclusion changes sweeping across the country, but let me remind you: The CSU administration is not addressing these executive orders; they're rolling them over.

I’m not a devout astrology believer nor am I an astrology disbeliever. Rather than explaining my own actions — and everyone else’s — with the positioning of the stars, I follow an astrology of my own: the positioning of your birth order.

Souza: CSU admin’s public statements fail to address student concerns

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist February 24, 2025
At what point can a public institution stand against policies thrust upon them by those who have historically funded it?

Seriously: Trump announces replacements for Department of Education

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist February 18, 2025
During his path to presidency and even after inauguration, between his stints pardoning QAnon shamans who are more loyal and white than his jizz napkins, President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he wants to cut the Department of Education. Just yesterday, he announced his plans to replace the department with “something funner.”

Several years ago, I first saw this video of Angelina Jolie receiving the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 2013 Governors Awards, a ceremony by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that recognizes various actors’ achievements. I’m not particularly moved by award show speeches; I don’t particularly watch award shows.

Souza: Apathy will define Trump’s presidency

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist February 6, 2025
The beginning of Donald Trump's presidency has regrettably been marked by one of the most deadly and tragic U.S. aviation disasters since 2001: the Jan. 29 Washington, D.C., plane collision.

Souza: Why your New Year’s resolutions don’t stick

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist January 27, 2025
The product of my New Year’s resolutions — and likely yours — is a girl I do not recognize. She is ambitious in the same way I was Dec. 31, with a laundry list of goals and affirmations, but she does not carry the laziness and doubt that prevented 2024 me from completing them.
