Colorado State wide receiver Rashard Higgins to forgo senior season, enter NFL Draft

Colorado State star wide receiver Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins is headed to the NFL, he announced via Twitter Wednesday night.

Higgins, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, is the third Colorado State player in as many years to declare early for the NFL Draft, following former Rams running backs Kapri Bibbs and Dee Hart.

“We wish Rashard Higgins all the best as he begins this next chapter in his life,” CSU head coach Mike Bobo said in a statement released on Twitter. “I’m appreciative of the way he represented his family, our team and Colorado State University, and gave everything he had for his teammates and our great fans on a daily basis. Rashard will always be a Ram, and I have no doubt he will be successful as he joins his fellow former Rams proudly representing Colorado State in the NFL.”

This season, Higgins garnered first team All-Mountain West honors after catching 75 passes for 1,062 yards and eight touchdowns. In 2014, he became CSU’s first consensus All-American since 1995 and was one of three finalists, along with Alabama’s Amari Cooper and West Virginia’s Kevin White, for the Biletnikoff Award, given each year to the nation’s top receiver.

In his time at CSU, Higgins set career records for catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, cementing himself as one of the best players the program has ever seen.

Higgins said earlier this year that he estimated he had at least four semesters left of classes to finish his degree.

He’s projected by most NFL scouting services as anywhere from a second- to fifth-round draft pick.
