Former Rams quarterback named Mountain West athlete of the year

Garrett Grayson, a former Colorado State University football player, has been named the Mountain West male athlete of the year for 2014-2015.

Grayson joins volleyball player Danielle Minch, who was awarded for the 2010-2011 year, as the second CSU player to receive the award, which was created in 2010.

Grayson began attending CSU in 2011, and played quarterback for the team in 2014 before being drafted by the New Orleans Saints. Grayson was one of the top quarterbacks in the nation for passing yards (fourth, 4,006 yards), passing efficiency (fifth, 166.2), passing yard per game (seventh, 308.2) and passing touchdowns (eighth, 32).

Grayson was drafted by the Saints during the third round of the 2015 NFL draft, and the New Orleans Times-Picayune projects Grayson to be the Saints’ third-string quarterback in 2015 behind Drew Brees and Luke McCown.
