It is typical in many sports for a rebuilding year to come into place now and again, though it has not been a factor or become evident for the CSU women’s lacrosse teams records over the years. It says it clear on the Rams home website, “We always strive to reach our potential, but at the end of the day, we play for our passion and love for the game!”

With a 20-14 victory over Westminster on Saturday, CSU clinched the Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League championship for the second year in a row. Former national championships in the 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013 seasons, the Rams will gear up for its fifth run in program history, though it will take a lot of dedication from veteran and newly acquired players.

“Our season has been a little different than last season, we have lost this season which is new to our undefeated record last season,” attack/midfielder Claire Andrues said. “This is a new team and we are getting used to each other and bonding. At this point in the season, we are just continuing to move forward.”

The spring season started off a little rocky. For the returning seniors the field was basically filled with all new players as well as a head coach. CSU has been through several hardships this season though the end of the season proved to be the turning point for this season.

Despite a transition of players, the Rams have yet again turned around the year towards the positive. With nationals in Virginia Beach, Virginia, a couple weeks away, CSU will need to continue practicing in order to compete against rivals looking to defeat the reining national champions.

“The season has turned out really great,” Andrues said.  “Nationals is kind of a sigh of relief, the team has come together especially with our new coach. We are looking forward to having our same season and winning the national championship again.”
