OTEP, who some argue are one of the most extreme female-led metal bands, will be tearing down, ripping up and rotting out Hodi’s Half Note on July 22 as part of a tour promoting the band’s seventh full-length album “Generation Doom.”

In 2013, metal vocalist Otep Shamaya, who lends her first name to the band, announced that OTEP’s sixth and final album would be “Hydra”. Now three years later, Shamaya remains the only remaining member of the band’s original lineup, but their recent 2016 release “Generation Doom” still climbed to the top 10 of the Billboard Rock and Independent charts – no easy task for a 16-year-old-nu-metal-band.

An openly lesbian vegan, Shamaya has been deeply involved in the slam poetry scene, including a performance on HBO’s Def Poetry, and is no stranger to activism.

OTEP’s music has been defined as “an explosion of inspiration and motivation, empowered by their dedication to the arts, being a voice for the voiceless, and fighting injustice” by their label Napalm Records.
