Comics Convention coming to CSU Sunday

Sunday brings the Fort Collins Comics and Gaming Festival to Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The event is going to showcase the talents of local comic artists and writers, as well as videogame tournaments and cosplay contests. Local vendors will also be selling novelties and special-edition items. Special attractions will include the local “Fort Collins Ghostbusters” group, and Far Away Creations will return with extremely detailed Star Wars replica props and scenery. Last year both groups appeared, with the Ghostbusters sporting proton packs with lights and sounds, and Far Away Creations bringing a Land Speeder from the original “Star Wars” trilogy.

Gaming events offered are to include “Super Smash Bros. WiiU” and “Mario Kart 64” tournaments. Local store Gryphon Games and Comics will be offering game demos to give attendees a glimpse into the world of table-top gaming.

Panels with special guests will be going on throughout the day, with topics ranging from the comics industry to how you can improve your cosplay outfits.

This is the second year that Fort Collins has hosted a comic convention, with last year’s convention garnering a positive reception and large attendance.
