With fresh snow on the ground and a new semester underway in Fort Collins, it is time for a new batch of music to enjoy, or is it? People tend to resist change — it is just part of human nature.

It would make sense for students to be listening to older, more familiar music while we adjust to new classes and a new schedule. With songs from One Republic to Katy Perry, students appear to be taking comfort in more of the mainstream music. Keep reading to see what we’re listening to this week at CSU.

Tyler Johnson, a senior construction management major, rocks to Kid Cudi’s “King Wizard.”

“I just like the beat,” Johnson said. “The background music is cool.”

Natalie Schofield, a junior studying social work, chooses “Something I Need” by One Republic, whose concert she plans to attend in May.

“It’s kind of mellow,” Schofield said. “They always have something to say in their songs.”

Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” blasts from the headphones of Caitlyn Pridemore, a sophomore studying business. Pridemore said she enjoys Katy Perry’s music.

“It’s kind of exciting and I feel like she changes it up every time,” Pridemore said.

Michael Prozeralik, junior mechanical engineering major, likes to throw it back to Linkin Park’s “In The End” because he feels it has an original sound not used by many people.

“I don’t like today’s music,” Prozeralik said. “It’s older, it’s an original sound.”

Whether listening to the peppy tunes of Katy Perry or the mellow sound of One Republic, there is more than enough music to get a CSU student through the day.
