Parcells: Am I queer enough?: Biphobia in LGBTQIA+ discourse harms us all

Hannah Parcells, Content Managing Editor September 24, 2024
September is Bisexual Visibility month, and as someone who identifies as bisexual, I’ve been thinking quite a bit about this idea of “visibility” and what it truly means. The queer community is often painted with one broad brush, especially in conversation with primarily straight people. This can give the impression that queerness is a monolithic experience.

Souza: Venezuelan gang fear perpetuates antimigrant, anti-immigrant racism

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist September 23, 2024
Under Donald Trump’s vision of a Colorado town, Aurora approximately 70 miles from Fort Collins, violent crime by the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua rapidly spreads. Bigger than the gang’s arrested members and their past presence in an apartment complex, the town of Aurora has quickly become a national talking point in an aggressively anti-migrant and anti-immigrant agenda.
Pavelko: Toys are not just for kids anymore

Pavelko: Toys are not just for kids anymore

Hana Pavelko, Collegian Columnist September 20, 2024
Most people remember playing with toys when they were kids. There are memories of brightly colored blocks being stacked, toy dolls going on action-packed adventures and coloring books with pictures colored outside the lines. Even the simplest things could be toys like paper folded into airplanes or fortune tellers.

LTTE: Canvas Stadium needs more water fountains for fans to stay hydrated

Guest Author September 19, 2024
During the second weekend of September, Colorado State University football had their second home game, all of which I have attended so far this year. While it seems like some things are going well, the lack of drinking fountains on the student side or the east side of the stadium is very apparent. Combine this with the fact that every single water bottle must be dumped on the outside of the gates before you enter the stadium, and I think we all know why there’s an uptick in woozy students who spend four hours in the sun with no water.

LTTE: Enough is enough: CSU’s football coach decisions need work

Guest Author September 17, 2024
How long are Colorado State University's administration and the athletic department going to keep fooling themselves with the football program? We are now in year three of the Jay Norvell experience and, to be quite frank, year two of him and the program is a national embarrassment.

Thorn: Talking about sex with your partner is important

Astrid Thorn, Collegian Columnist September 16, 2024
For many young people, having sex is much easier than talking about it. It can often feel awkward to bring up sexual desires in conversation with a sexual partner or partners, but it is an essential part of developing a positive sexual relationship, not only with your partner but also with yourself.

Naiditch: Skateboarders need to get out of the way of campus flow

Picture this: It’s 9 a.m., and you are walking to your first class of the day. The sun is out, but it’s still early enough in the morning that the heat won’t make you drown in a pool of your own sweat.

Stephenson: CSU has newfound underdog appeal against Boulder

Leah Stephenson, Collegian Columnist September 13, 2024
It seems that it is getting harder to compete with CU Boulder’s image. Last year, Boulder became the subject of mass media attention after hiring Deion Sanders, which shifted the public perception of CU as a whole. Initially, it didn’t seem as though Sanders would change a lot for Colorado State University other than the talent of our football competitors, until the rest of the nation started to take an extreme interest.

Seriously: To Chip the Buffalo from CAM the Ram

Emma Souza, Collegian Columnist September 12, 2024
As the official mascot of Colorado State University, I would first like to fully acknowledge our longstanding history as the two biggest public universities in Colorado. I respect and understand why we have a feud because, as in many other parasocial relationships, there’s always one celebrity and one fanboy. Not to imply the beef is one-sided, but while you’re the only one spitting it out, here we like to swallow. You make it hard, though — buffalo burgers really taste like shit.

Lopez: Dear Fort Collins

Dominique Lopez, Opinion Editor September 12, 2024
Where do I begin? The community you provide for students at Colorado State University is undeniably the best. With opportunities to go to the mountains, hang out in Old Town and even attend classes right in the heart of the city is amazing.
