CSU drops to No. 20 in AVCA poll
Despite going 2-0 to open MW play, the Rams fell one spot to No. 20 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches’ Association poll, which was released Monday.
CSU (9-3, 2-0 MW) was jumped in the poll by No. 16 Minnesota (previously No. 21) and No. 18 Purdue (previously No. 20), while Oregon fell to No. 22 (previously No. 18).
Another MW school cracked the rankings, with Wyoming coming in at No. 25. The Cowgirls swept Boise State, who took CSU five sets Saturday. They also fared better than CSU in an exhibition match earlier in the week against Shanghai Eastbest & Lansheng, although it does not count toward the standings. Wyoming lost in five sets to the Chinese team, whereas the Rams were swept.
Long Beach State, the former school of MW Offensive Player of the Week Alex Reid, moved up one spot in the poll to No. 24.
CSU is back in action Thursday at 7:30 p.m. when they play at Nevada. The Rams continue the road trip when they take on San Diego State at 3 p.m. Saturday.
