Wyoming Invitational awaits for Colorado State tennis

Coming home from the Air Force Academy, the Rams didn’t bring home a trophy, but a good all-around weekend leaves them with room to improve.

Colorado State tennis finished up a four day event at Air Force Academy over the weekend. The Rams only had to spend three days in the tournament and finished with solid results at the Bedford Cup. Singles players captured a total of nine victories overall, and in doubles, the Rams had a combined record of 3-5.

“It was what we expected for our first tournament,” Coach Jarod Camerota said. “Our results were OK, and the team and coaches know what we can truly accomplish. It’s really early in the season.”

Camerota has been coaching since 2016-17, and some of the Rams’ recent seasons have been the most successful in program history.

Junior Emily Luetschwager was the standout performer from the weekend. She won all three of her singles matches. Luetschwager was the number one last year and hopes to improve on her 20-13 record from last season. Luetschwager garnered all-Mountain West accolades in singles last year.

She also won a match in doubles with fellow Ram Priscilla Palermo. Palermo had an additional pair of wins in alpha singles. Last season, the duo won their final five matches together. These two girls look to dominate the competition this season as doubles teammates once again. The three-year players have a lot of experience together and are the leaders of the team.

Anastasiia Kotsyuba, a sophomore from Odessa, Ukraine, also racked up two singles match victories. Besides these three girls, no member of the team had more than one win.

“We got some good feedback on what we need to work on,” Camerota said. “I’m happy with how we competed. We just need to get a little better, little by little.”

The team travels up to Laramie, Wyoming, this weekend. They will spend two days in the Wyoming Invitational. The Rams look to improve on their opening weekend before returning home for the Jon Messick Invitational in Fort Collins the following weekend.
