The blurry legalization of recreational marijuana in some states has made finding a bank challenging for dispensaries. Most banks do not want to violate federal law, which states that possession of cannabis is still illegal.
According to an article published on kgw.com, 25 business owners, all members of the Oregon Cannabis Association, went to Washington D.C. Tuesday to find better banking options. This is the second time members of the OCA have tried to push this change.
Until better banking opportunities arise, customers will have to plan to keep cash on hand. Danica Carlson, a customer at Pure Green, said this has been an inconvenience for her.
“It’s something I don’t carry on me. I’d either have to pay an extra ATM fee or make the extra stop. It’s constantly something extra,” Carlson said.
