College girl leads mountain climbing expedition

A college girl, Wu Xiaoyin, from Xiamen University in southeast China’s Fujian Province, will lead a mountain-climbing team up to the summit of Kang Sang Rahm located in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.

Xiaoyin, will lead the team, that consists of students from Xiamen University, a teacher from Qingdao University and two graduates from Taiwan Sun Yat-sen University.

According to womenofchina.cn, Xiaoyin, said that her family initially opposed her interest in mountain climbing because they thought it was dangerous. However, she promised to take good care of herself and check in with them regularly.

The 15-member team has been training for a month in preparation for the 6,325-meter climb.

Xiaoyin and her team are a part of the Students’ Mountaineering Association of Xiamen University. The SMA was established in 2002 and is the first student organization in south China focusing on outdoor sports such as mountaineering, rock climbing and hiking.
