Sexual assault and CSU

Our beloved Colorado State University has escaped the list of 55 universities that are being investigated for possibly violating Title IX by mishandling sexual violence and harassment cases. We must be doing something right, and are proud of the powers that be that have apparently taken the sexual assault cases that we’ve been plagued with and handled them appropriately.

However, the fact that 55 universities are currently under scrutiny is a red flag. Sexual assault is a huge issue that has specifically shown up on college campuses across the nation, but it’s disheartening to see that there are some schools that haven’t figured out proper procedure. Our hearts go out to the survivors at other universities who have not been treated well in the investigation process, and we hope that things change soon.

Kudos to CSU, and kudos to the survivors among us who have demanded a certain level of treatment. We have amazing resources here, like the Women Gender and Advocacy Center, which can be reached at (970) 491-6384, or (970) 492-4242 for the sexual assault hotline.

Let’s all do what we can to not only keep ourselves off that list, but to decrease sexual assaults all around. Let’s be the example that other universities can follow.
