Fashion News Friday: Rihanna, Tom Ford, Google Glass & More!

TGIF!

Friday means another round of fashion news. There was quite a bit that happened in the last week in terms of fashion news; collaborations, partnerships, awards, launches. In the fashion world, nothing is ever constant, it’s always changing in one way or another.
Heard of the phenomenon known as Google Glass? For those of you who don’t know or need some clarification as to what exactly Google Glass is, it’s basically a computer (or smartphone) for your face. It records, takes photos, and has a voice control function, all hands free. In a new partnership with the eye wear designer/distributor/manufacturer Luxottica (home to brands like Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear and Oliver Peoples) to create stylish frames for the Glass. The hope that by doing this is to get more to purchase this innovation by offering a fashionable incentive. Will this work? We will just have to wait for the numbers to come out.

Designer Diane von Furstenberg is now the star of her own reality TV show on E!. She will star in a docu-series that depicts the relationship of the designer and eight associates in training. The winner of the competition will be selected as the new Diane von Furstenberg Global Brand Ambassador, traveling the world representing the business. The show is still in development, and is yet to have a release date. For someone who likes Project Runway, this show seems like my cup of tea!

Rihanna is making headlines again, and this time, not for her music. The music icon has been chosen to be named 2014’s CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Icon of the Year. Rihanna is currently the face of Balmain and was seated front row at many shows during the course of fashion week. Over the years, Rihanna has been known for taking style risks, so it is not surprising that she is being awarded this award, joining the ranks of Lady Gaga and Kate Moss. She will be awarded the award at the CFDA Awards on June 2.
