Dressing up as your favorite character takes a serious amount of time, according to attendees of the annual Anime Expo in Los Angeles, California.
Costume play, or “cosplay”, gave attendees of the Expo a chance to dress up, and for other attendees to admire the costumes. Costumes varied greatly, from simple kimonos to elaborate costumes taking months to design and create.
Marc Perez, CEO of the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animators, said, “For American culture, its an influx of Japanese culture — sushi, anime, manga, fashion, music and a deep love of cosplay, dressing up for your favorite character.”
